The Pit & the Pendulum - Roger Corman - 1961

Un inquiétant château niché en haut d’une falaise, un aristocrate endeuillé rongé par la folie, une voix de femme venue d’outre-tombe et une chambre secrète hantée par des secrets infernaux : des ingrédients traditionnels (et délectables) du film d’horreur gothique en vogue dans les sixties, mais desquels Roger Corman tirera une œuvre essentielle et belle à se damner. Porté par un Vincent Price alors au sommet de sa gloire et une Barbara Steele tout juste couronnée "Reine des Ténèbres par" le premier long-métrage de Mario Bava (Le Masque du démon), La Chambre des tortures est l’une des perles les plus éclatantes de la série des adaptations d'Edgar Allan Poe initiée par Corman en 1960 avec le flamboyant Chute de la maison Usher. Un incontournable.

A disturbing castle nestled atop a cliff, a bereaved aristocrat plagued by madness, a woman's voice coming from beyond the grave, and a mysterious and hidden room haunted by infernal secrets: traditional (and delectable) ingredients of Gothic horror film that was in vogue in the sixties, but from which Roger Corman created a beautiful masterpiece simply to die for. Supported by Vincent Price at the height of his fame and Barbara Steele just crowned "Queen of Darkness as" the first feature film from Mario Bava (The Masque of the Devil), Chamber of Torture is one of the most striking pearls from the series of adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe by Corman initiated by Corman in 1960 with the flamboyant Fall of the House of Usher. A must-see.
